During the Edo era, most of northwestern Senso-ji Temple was made up of paddy fields.
The name Senzoku came from stories of thousand-bundle rice harvests.
In the early Taisho era, Senzoku rice fields were reclaimed, and in the early Showa era, public buses began to run.
It was a busy route in Yoshiwara red-light district, and every day was like a fair with crowds
going to movie theaters and playhouses in Asakusa Junikai or enjoying Koen Rokku.
This became the main boulevard connecting Koen Rokku to Hashiba and Imado, called Oku-Asakusa — ever-popular with Asakusa fans.
